Amos Plant hosts blood drive

April 3, 2025

Employees across southern West Virginia came together at the John E. Amos Power Plant to donate 34 units of blood, including 12 Power-Red Donations.

As the first blood drive hosted by the Amos Plant since pre-COVID-19, Safety & Health Consultant Joseph L. wasn't sure what the employee turnout would be. Participation increased, however, by nearly 40%, with employees from the plant, South Charleston's Central Machine Shop, Teays Valley Service Center and the Hurricane Operations Center.

"As cliche as it sounds, donating blood is truly donating life," Joseph said, and he speaks from experience; he had a 21-year career as a Cabell County paramedic before starting his career with AEP.

"I know where that blood will go," Joseph added. "It will significantly help someone in need on a bad day."
