Kingsport employees clear the way for park goers

June 28, 2024

Several Appalachian Power employees in Kingsport, Tenn., cleared a 1.5-mile section of the Indian Pipes and Bear Run Trails at Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium.

KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- Appalachian Power employees do not hesitate to roll up their sleeves to volunteer in the communities where we live and work.

Kingsport Service Center employees recently made a significant impact in the community by spending time at Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium for the United Way of Greater Kingsport's annual Day of Caring. Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium is the largest city-owned park in Tennessee.

"We cut briars and branches and pushed over a few dead trees along a 1.5-mile section of the Indian Pipes and Bear Run Trails," said Kevin Robinette, technician prin. "We had a good time, and the Park volunteers seemed pleased with our accomplishments. Thanks to everyone for their hard work and effort."

Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium is a 3,750-acre nature preserve. It has roughly 44 miles of hiking trails covering most of the park, with over 32 miles approved for mountain biking. The park also features a 44-acre lake, a Nature Center with a state-of-the-art Planetarium Theater and Animal Habitats featuring wolves, bobcats, raptors and reptiles.
