Discussions featuring AEP executives at Goldman Sachs event to be webcast

COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 27, 2005 – Live webcasts are scheduled of two panel discussions and a technical session featuring executives from American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) at the Goldman Sachs Power & Utility Conference June 2 in Las Vegas.

Chuck Zebula, senior vice president – fuel, emissions and logistics for AEP, will participate in a discussion of coal’s impact on prices, the environment and regulation. The session is scheduled for 11 a.m. EDT.

Susan Tomasky, AEP’s executive vice president and chief financial officer, will take part in a discussion about the effect of regional transmission organizations on competitive markets. That session is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. EDT.

Zebula also will participate in a technical session at 5 p.m. EDT, to be repeated at 6 p.m. EDT, addressing coal-related issues of regional supply and demand, transportation and emissions.

During the conference, AEP will reaffirm its prior guidance of ongoing earnings of $2.30 to $2.50 per share for the 2005 fiscal year.
