UPDATE ON STORM RESTORATION EFFORTS -- 5-12-2015, 4 p.m.

May 12, 2015

AEP Texas crews have reduced the number of electricity outages to 8,500 as of 4 p.m. as compared to 41,000 at the outage peak at 5 a.m. Tuesday morning.  The outages resulted in the aftermath of a series of thunderstorms that swept through the southern portions of the AEP Texas service territory early that morning damaging or knocking down power lines and utility poles and disrupting service.

Approximately 3,800 outages remain in the Rio Grande Valley area while approximately 2,800 remain in the Corpus Christi District.   Approximately 1,400 outages remain in the Laredo District, mostly in the Falfurrias and Hebbronville areas.

Restoration of service is anticipated in some parts of the Valley by this evening; however, restoration activities are likely to continue on Wednesday for the Mission, Edinburg and Weslaco areas. Service restoration in Mission is anticipated Wednesday afternoon and that evening for Edinburg and parts of Weslaco.  Some customers in the Weslaco area may not see their power restored until Thursday.

Service restoration is anticipated for parts of Corpus Christi by Tuesday evening.  Restoration in the mid-town and south side areas of Corpus Christi and Aransas Pass and surrounding areas are anticipated to be 95 percent complete by Wednesday afternoon.  AEP Texas anticipates restoration of service to customers in the Beeville area by late Tuesday afternoon and later Tuesday evening for customers in the Kingsville, Sinton and Tivoli areas.

Standing water from the storm is hampering crews in the Falfurrias and Hebbronville areas.  AEP Texas anticipates restoration of service to most customers in those areas by Thursday evening, if not sooner.

Residents are reminded to consider any downed power lines to be energized and dangerous.  Please call 866 223-8508 to report downed lines.

A real-time update on the number of outages in specific areas can be viewed at www.aeptexas.com.
