I&M encourages customers to report outages, check outage status

June 19, 2014

With the arrival of storm season, Indiana Michigan Power reminds customers of the importance of reporting power outages. Customers who lost power in Wednesday’s storms were able to use their smart phones and other mobile devices to report outages and check the estimated time of restoration for their areas.

Though I&M’s technology can alert our electric power professionals to many outages, customers’ reports are critical to our restoration efforts. Reporting also helps us determine more exactly the area an outage has affected.

I&M customers can report outages by phone to our Customer Care Center numbers. Customers can also report an outage on their computer or mobile devices at www.IndianaMichiganPower.com/outages.

Customers who register to use our website can also access the estimated time of restoration for their home. Customers should keep in mind that those times are subject to change, especially in the early hours after a widespread, weather-related outage. We encourage customers to check back to see any updates.

Our website also has helpful information about safety concerns when power is out and answers to frequently asked questions about I&M’s procedures for restoring power.

I&M understands the inconvenience when power is lost. Following outages, professional line mechanics and other staff often work double shifts to restore power as soon as is safely possible. The more customers who report outages, the better our expert engineers can pinpoint the most efficient ways to restore power to the most people as soon as possible.
