Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) has announced it is seeking proposals for new baseload generation to supplement existing power supply resources to effectively meet customers’ power demand requirements. A Request for Proposal (RFP) to add baseload generation has been issued and information about it posted on PSOklahoma.com.
PSO will solicit the new resources in the form of power purchase agreements or the acquisition of new or existing generation up to 600 megawatts (MW). The company’s self-build options will compete against third-party proposals. The target for commercial operation is June 1, 2011.
Just last month, PSO announced it is separately seeking new peaking resources up to 500 MW, and an RFP to add peaking capacity was issued Sept. 12. The target year for the addition of new peaking capacity is 2008.
Both RFPs are available on the company’s website at http://www.PSOklahoma.com/go/rfp.
PSO, a unit of American Electric Power, is an electric utility company serving approximately 511,000 customers in eastern and southwestern Oklahoma. Based in Tulsa, PSO has more than 4,000 megawatts of generating capacity and offers some of the lowest energy prices in the United States.
