Appalachian Power expands broadband and employment opportunities in Grayson and Carroll counties

February 28, 2025

ROANOKE, Va., February 28, 2025 – Appalachian Power is committed to investing in the communities it serves, and that commitment is taking a significant step forward with an upcoming career fair focused on providing high-quality, remote job opportunities.

The company will host a job fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, at 65 Forest Oak Road in Woodlawn, Va. The event is designed to connect job seekers in Grayson and Carroll counties with remote customer service positions with Appalachian Power’s Customer Solutions Center. With a starting wage of $17 per hour, this hiring event offers a pathway to stable, long-term employment in a region that has historically struggled with job availability.

“Our call center agents are the first line of support for our customers, and they play a critical role in ensuring reliable service,” said Angie Wright, customer operations manager. “By expanding broadband access and creating remote work opportunities, we are not only strengthening our workforce but also revitalizing communities that have long faced economic hardship and need a reason to be hopeful.”

Appalachian Power continues investing in underserved communities through broadband expansion, improved service reliability and strategic hiring initiatives to stimulate economic growth. The broadband expansion project in Grayson and Carroll counties is part of a broader initiative to provide high-speed internet access to rural areas that have historically been left behind in the digital economy. This investment allows Appalachian Power to bring more remote jobs to Appalachia, where individuals are looking for sustainable careers close to home.

In addition to job opportunities, Appalachian Power is offering training resources to help prospective employees develop the skills needed for success. The company has partnered with Marshall University in West Virginia and local workforce development programs to provide workshops on soft skills, resume building and customer service excellence. These resources are aimed at helping job seekers transition into meaningful careers with long-term growth potential.

“We recognize that economic revitalization goes beyond just offering jobs,” said Amanda Cox, regional external affairs manager. “It requires investment in training and infrastructure so that people can succeed. We are proud to be part of the solution.”
The impact of these efforts is already evident. A recent broadband pilot program in Logan, W.Va., led to hiring more than 70 employees from southern West Virginia and Kentucky. This success underscores Appalachian Power’s commitment to creating jobs that benefit individuals and strengthen the entire region.

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply in advance at https://innosourceportal.com/careers/29703 or attend the career fair on March 4 to learn more about these remote work opportunities.
