Appalachian Power customers with electric heat generally use more than the average amount of electricity each month, while customers without electric heat use less. The chart shows examples of what a typical residential customer using 1,000 and 2,000 kWh/month would pay.

Energy Efficiency Programs in Virginia offer residential customers a FREE home energy assessment, rebates on appliances and home improvements, and low-income weatherization assistance. Incentives for businesses are available for the installation of energy efficient lighting and equipment. Appalachian Power offers two voluntary programs for residential customers with smart meters. These programs help customers save money by shifting their energy usage to more affordable, off-peak hours.
With these programs, customers are charged different amounts for electricity depending on when they use it throughout the day and/or time of year.
