Appalachian Power operates the Smith Mountain Pump Storage Hydroelectric Project in Virginia under an operating license authorized by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The company's first license expired in 2010 and a new license went into effect in 2011. Appalachian also uses a FERC-approved Shoreline Management Plan to manage growth, development and the environment at both project reservoirs. For more information, visit SmithMtn.com.
