At Appalachian Power, we’re building a powerful future by investing in our infrastructure and upgrading our transmission lines to meet the energy demands of today and tomorrow. We’re expanding our use of renewable energy, diversifying our fuel source portfolio and ensuring that we are compliant with all regulations as we work to provide reliable power, minimize generation costs and stabilize prices.
Since 2005, Appalachian Power has spent more than $2 billion on environmental improvements at its larger coal-fired plants to meet EPA rules. While in 2015 some of older generating units will close, our remaining coal-fired plants meet current and anticipated environmental regulations that will allow us to continue to use coal well into the future. At the same time, we are exploring and expanding use of other fuels, including natural gas, hydro and wind, as well as investing and promoting energy efficiency measures.
