What am I Responsible for?

Appalachian Power owns and maintains some exterior electric fixtures, but other equipment (weatherhead, service entrance, and meter box) are owned by customers. See the diagrams below for more detail.

Partnership with HomeServe USA

HomeServe USA Repair Management Corp. ("HomeServe"), with corporate offices located at 601 Merritt 7, 6th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851, is an independent company separate from Appalachian Power and offers this optional service plan as an authorized representative of the service contract provider, North American Warranty, Inc., 175 West Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60604. Your choice of whether to participate in this service plan will not affect the price, availability or terms of service Appalachian Power.

Exterior Electrical Line Coverage offered by HomeServe is an optional, third party, non-tariffed service. Appalachian Power customers are not required to sign up for this service in order to receive regulated utility services from Appalachian Power. Failure to maintain coverage or pay for the coverage will not impact the service provided by Appalachian Power or result in disconnection.

The plans from HomeServe are not regulated by the state utility commission. The program is offered as an option and is not a service in regulated rates. Failure to pay the home warranty service will not affect electric service.

  • These programs may be available from another provider
  • These programs are not regulated by the utility commission
  • A new customer shall have 30 days after enrollment to cancel his or her appliance service program contract without penalty
  • The customer's regulated rates and conditions of service provided by the utility are not affected by enrollment in the program or by the decision of the customer to use the services of another provider of repair service
